Athlete injury problems
The term sports injuries describes injuries that occur to athletes (professional or amateur) during sporting activities
In reality the same injuries can happen to "everyday people". The distinction is made for the following reasons:
- there is a difference in the frequency with which these injuries occur in athletes
- there is a difference in the energy released mainly due to the greater muscle mass and speed developed by athletes
- there is a difference in the chronic strain since athletes repeat exercises many times, repeatedly loading the same parts of their body
These injuries are divided into acute injuries, where there is a clear traumatic event, and chronic injuries due to 'overuse' and the tissues injured are most often the muscles, tendons, ligaments, articular cartilage and less often the bones. In addition to accidental injuries, poor technique, inappropriate equipment, inadequate warm-up or recovery and excessive training are some of the causative factors of sports injuries.
In more severe cases, ruptures of ligaments (e.g. ACL), tendons (e.g. shoulder tendon), menisci, articular cartilage and fatigue fractures occur. Very often the athlete's will to achieve a goal and overtraining combined with poor management and rehabilitation of common injuries leads to chronic conditions, which are very distressing and difficult for the athlete. Some syndromes such as that of the iliotibial band, abdominopelvic-production syndromes and conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, tibial periostitis and fatigue fractures are also among them.
The treatment of sports injuries depends on the nature of the injury and the prerequisite for proper rehabilitation is correct diagnosis. Treating based on what is likely or the belief of the athlete, coach or another person often leads to mistakes that could easily be avoided. In recent years, traditional treatments (drugs, local injections, physiotherapy, surgery) have been joined in recent years by biological treatments based on the body's ability to repair itself with very good results.
