Cervical / Autonomy

Neck pain (cervical pain) is a very common symptom.

It is usually caused by poor posture, during daily activities
such as working and sleeping. This causes strain on the muscles and ligaments in the area, resulting in pain and restriction of movement. The pain may also extend to the head or shoulder.  It may appear suddenly, after a sudden movement or a car accident, or it may settle slowly and persist for weeks or months.

Treatment of neck pain, begins with a detailed history and a complete neurological examination. If necessary,
further tests such as simple x-rays, MRI and electromyography will be requested. Serious diseases of the cervical spine
spine is cervical herniated disc (herniated intervertebral disc), cervical myelopathy, fractures and tumours of the region and so on.

Autonomy

The special feature of our neck is not only is it (usually) so flexible, but it also has to carry a heavy load EVERY DAY,
our head! The cervical spine is full of nerves, many muscles and seven vertebrae. It is ready to bear and forgive many of the sins of daily life , it can withstand and tolerate many sins of daily life, but when things get too much for her, she responds!

The main causes of authenalgia are problems with posture and strained muscles in the neck and shoulders. In the long term, they shrink and
harden - and become painful. Pain in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine are also rooted in psychological stress.
Neck pain after sudden hyperextension is usually the result of whiplash injury. During sudden movement
 acceleration-deceleration,
the head is thrown back and forth - the muscles and ligaments expand.

This is how your doctor makes the proper diagnosis

Simple pain in the "hard" muscles in the neck is diagnosed relatively easily by the examining physician as he or she asks you several questions. With his hands, he palpates the cervical vertebrae so that he can easily identify the muscle spasm. He taps your spine, checking to see if it hurts anywhere. If the pain radiates to one or both limbs, your doctor will check to see if certain nerve roots are irritated. In this neurological test, he checks your muscle strength and reflexes. During the sensitivity test, the doctor lightly touches the hand over the shoulders, arms or hands to check if there is any disability.

In advanced diagnostic tests, your doctor can (and will...) use imaging techniques. These are X-ray, CT scan or magnetic resonance imaging scan with imaging of the spine, possibly the neck or head. In addition, it will refer to blood tests, possibly even a cardiological diagnostic procedure. With these investigations it can be determined if there is a herniated disc, a disc protrusion, a spinal canal stenosis, syringomyelia, cysts, tumor, degenerations of the small vertebral joints.
Do not neglect neck pain

Pain is always a hint, an alarm. That is why it is important to pay attention to pain. Don't neglect neck pain...! A painkiller can relieve or eliminate pain. A collar that keeps the neck area stable for a while can be a good treatment, as well as physiotherapy and chiropractic care. As physiotherapy applications, electrotherapy and ultrasound can be prescribed. They promote blood circulation and metabolic processes in the tissue having a relaxing effect. And relaxed muscles are better supplied with blood, which can relieve pain. A workplace design according to ergonomic parameters is urgently recommended. Psychotherapeutic treatment approaches can be used with overwhelming depressions. Infusions under CRT control could help.

Persistent discomfort despite extensive pain management and/or evidence of nerve damage in the neck- for example with a herniated disc or spinal stenosis in the cervical spine - makes surgery (microsurgery) often unavoidable. For some indications, other treatments may be considered, such as nerve sedation by injection, endoscopic discectomy, percutaneous laser decompression, disc replacement and others. This also applies to cervical spine instability, where spinal fusion may be considered.
